From Foot Traffic to Tech-Enabled Resilience

Small coffee shops that relied on foot traffic were thrown for a loop when the global pandemic kept people in their homes. This sudden shift forced many coffee shop owners to explore new ways of staying in business, and technology became the lifeline they needed to survive.

Startups Join Forces to Help Coffee Shops Thrive

In response to this crisis, startups like Joe Coffeeraised funding to help coffee shops take mobile orders, whileOdeko and Cloosiv mergedtheir inventory and mobile-ordering apps. This combined entity, Odeko, subsequently raised tens of millions of dollars in venture-backed funding.

The Birth of Dripos: A Comprehensive Tool for Coffee Shops

When Jack Pawlik and Avery Durrant founded New York-based coffee shop software companyDriposin 2019, they didn’t know they would soon be joining this group. The pair’s initial idea was to help local coffee shops build mobile ordering apps, similar to what Starbucks offers.

"The more we interacted with operators and shop owners, the more we realized that there was just a much bigger problem going on," Pawlik told TechCrunch exclusively. "We were almost adding to that problem by being that kind of platform."

Pivoting to Meet the Needs of Coffee Shop Owners

Through conversations with shop owners, Pawlik and Durrant learned that many were using simple point-of-sale systems like Square. While not bad in itself, it wasn’t designed for their specific workflow. To fill the gaps, shops employed five to 10 other pieces of software.

Pawlik and Durrant decided to pivot and build a tool that would replace multiple platforms with one comprehensive solution.

Introducing Dripos: A Suite of Integrated Tools

Dripos brings together point-of-sale; mobile payments; employee management and payroll; loyalty and marketing automation; and administrative functions like accounting and banking. By consolidating these features into one platform, Dripos provides a streamlined experience for coffee shop owners.

Manny Carral, owner and operator of Revolucion Coffee + Juice with five locations in Texas, recently switched his locations to Dripos. He noted that before using the tool, they relied on multiple software solutions, including Toast and Square.

"We are able to achieve this and even much more through Dripos," Carral said. "The product has allowed us to streamline our day-to-day operations and give us time back to focus more on our customer experience."

Dripos’ Impact: Saving Time and Money for Coffee Shop Owners

Dripos’ approach has caught on with other customers as well. Last year was the company’s first full year of operation, during which they saw significant growth.

"By consolidating multiple platforms into one, we’ve saved coffee shop owners time and money," said Pawlik. "Our tool is designed to make their lives easier, not more complicated."

A New Era for Dripos: Raising Funding and Expanding Services

With its comprehensive suite of tools, Dripos has become a go-to solution for coffee shops looking to modernize their operations. To further support this growth, the company recently raised funding from venture capital investors.

"Dripos is poised for significant growth in the coming years," said Durrant. "We’re excited to continue innovating and expanding our services to meet the evolving needs of coffee shop owners."

Conclusion

The pandemic may have presented a challenge for small coffee shops, but it also created an opportunity for innovation and collaboration. By embracing technology and working together, companies like Dripos are helping these businesses thrive in a new era of retail.

As Pawlik noted, "We’re proud to be part of this movement, and we look forward to continuing our work with coffee shop owners to help them succeed."
